Catherine Breaks Her Arm
On Saturday, April 20, 2013 Catherine took a trip to the Emergency Room. Around 1:20pm she was fine. She was playing outside with her brothers, which seems like a harmless situation and it was for a while. They were taking turns on the monkey bars. The rest is in Catherine's own words:"I was playing outside with my brothers when it was my turn on the monkey bars I had no idea what was about to happen. I think I was on the third bar and something went wrong. Every other time when I had fallen I had landed on my feet. But this time I landed on my arm."For three hours it was fine, but sore. After that it started swelling really bad. Everybody knows what happens next. She went to the hospital. Got x-rays and found that her arm was broken. Now she has a green cast that will stay on for three weeks.
Water Stop at St. Luke's 1/2 Marathon
On Sunday, April 28, 2013 the Andersons went to volunteer at St. Luke's 1/2 Marathon to work a water stop. The water stop was located at the 2 and 11 mile mark in the course. Both water and gatorade were offered to more than 4,000 runners.
According to Catherine they arrived at their post "too early in the morning" at around 7:00 am to begin setting up for the race, which would start a little after 8:00 am. Their first job was to fill hundreds of cups of water and gatorade to be given to the runners as they passed by.
Two people they knew would be running in the 1/2 marathon. One of them is a teacher at their school the other is their cross country coach.
They had lots of fun cheering on the runners and passing out drinks. They even got a little wet when some runners dropped cups near them. Catherine even got a face full of gatorade!
